A freak paragliding accident in Cape Town has claimed the life of for Scotland international and Munster coach Greig Oliver on Monday afternoon.
In a statement the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) explains the collision occurred in the skies above the Sea Point Point Promenade.

OLIVER’S PARAGLIDE LANDED IN THE WATER
“One tandem paraglider reportedly landed safely and both the pilot and passenger were found to be not injured” the statement read.
“A second tandem paraglider reportedly deployed a reserve parachute and is believed to have landed in the water approximately 200 to 300 meters off-shore of Sea Point Promenade.”

NSRI rescue swimmers and paramedics reached the man and he was freed from paragliding gear and recovered onto the rocks.
Despite extensive CPR efforts Oliver was unfortunately declared dead by paramedics.
RUGBY FRATERNITY PAYS THEIR CONDOLENCES
Oliver played in the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987 for Scotland. He has also coached Ireland ‘A’, Ireland U20 between 2011-2014 and passed on being the Elite Performance Officer for Munster.

IRFU Chief Executive Kevin Potts said; “On behalf of the Irish rugby community, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the Oliver family at this extremely sad time.
“Greig was a hugely popular member of staff and played a key role in the development of many young players during his time at Munster Rugby.”
