So far, Pirates have already confirmed that they have signed TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi, All Stars midfielder Siphelo Baloni, Marumo Gallants winger Katlego Otladisa and SuperSport United’s Patrick Maswanganyi, who were all unveiled by the Soweto giants weeks ago. But those players are expected to just be the first batch, as the club is believed to still want to address a few issues in defence, midfield and attack before their season finishes.

Besides those names, Pirates are believed to be in talks to sign Sicelo Hlatshwayo, a defender that can play both centrally or on the right hand side. They will be hoping to wrap up a deal with Golden Arrows, whom they have a very good relationship with. Pirates are also thought to have been offered the opportunity to re-sign former fan favourite Andile Jali, as well as another Galaxy player and recent Bafana Bafana call up, Bathusi Aubaas. They’re also thought to have to be close to wrapping up a deal for Dondol Stars goalkeeper Siphamandla Gumede and the recently released Mamelodi Sundowns star Lesedi Kapinga.

Before even some of those names were mentioned though, Pirates were linked with another speedy winger, in the form of Royal AM star Mokete Mogaila. The Buccaneers have been touted as long-term admires of Mogaila, who has since starred for Bafana Bafana’s COSAFA Cup squad as well. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, the Sea Robbers even tried to sign him before the tournament.
PIRATES TRIED TO SIGN MOGAILA
“Orlando Pirates are big admirers of Shaune Mogaila and there was an attempt again at the end of the season to lure the player before the FIFA ban of Royal AM. There are a few other clubs that have been impressed with what they have seen in him at the COSAFA Cup so far,” said the source to the same publication.

But now, with Royal AM having won their case and had their ban lifted by FIFA, it could present a lifeline for Pirates to go back in and try sign Mogaila. To their advantage, they have quite a few fringe players they could offer MaMkhize’s side in exchange if needs be.
