Acting MMC for Transport in the City of Johannesburg, councillor Anthea Leitch has conveyed her thoughts and prayers to the 77 injured passengers involved in a collision this morning, Tuesday, 25 July.
HOW THE 77 INJURED WERE TRAVELLING THIS MORNING
A Metrobus single-decker and a student bus shuttle collided on Kingsway Road, Auckland Park. Of the 77 injured, 19 were students, who had to be transported to various hospitals for medical attention.

“I would like to thank the first responders that were on scene and attended to all the passengers, as well as the UJ operations department for their assistance and immediate response. We will be working very closely with JMPD to ascertain the cause of this accident and ensure that effective recourse is affected,” she said.
“Our prayers are with the injured. I will be engaging the Executive Mayor and MMC for Public Safety so that we can arrange hospital visits,” MMC Leitch said.

SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE EXTRICATED USING JAWS OF LIFE
According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the accident happened at around 08:00.
“On arrival on the scene, two buses were found to have collided. One was found to have overturned and lay on its side, occupying the width of the roadway,” said Kyle.
He said the second bus had collided with a concrete structure.
“Several patients were found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
“Incident commanders established an on-scene triage area and additional resources were dispatched by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre,” Kyle further explained.
An investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the accidents.
