The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has declined Maritzburg United’s request to postpone their final DStv Premiership match of the season against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The decision has disappointed club chairperson Farouk Kadodia.
Maritzburg United will visit champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday, 16 May.

This situation leaves the Team of Choice in a disadvantageous position because the other relegation candidates, Chippa United and Marumo Gallants, only play their last matches on Saturday, 20 May and will have a better idea of what they need to do to avoid the dreaded drop.
“We are disappointed that the league has turned down our request to move the fixtures to a date where all the relegation matches will be played at the same time,” said Kadodia.
“We played on Saturday against Stellenbosch and it was a very high intensity game and we have no time to recover because we are playing again on Tuesday.”

Maritzburg United’s 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC last Saturday boosted their chances of avoiding automatic relegation and they go into the final round of matches level on points with Chippa United and Marumo Gallants.
