South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested a man, 43 on Tuesday, 2 May for illegal possession of diamonds and rubies.
In a statement, the police said members of Operation Restore conducted a roadblock on the N7 in Klawer when they stopped and searched a Toyota Quantum with its passengers.
SUSPECT FOUND WITH 344 UNPOLISHED DIAMONDS AND 1030 UNPOLISHED RUBIES
“One of the occupants of the vehicle luggage was searched and the members found 344 unpolished diamonds and 1030 unpolished rubies in his luggage,” read the statement.

VALUE OF THE STONES IS YET TO BE DETERMINED
The 43-year-old will appear in the Klawer Magistrates Court.
“The value of the diamonds is yet to be determined,” added the statement.
