Although the Tunisian coach did not eventually put pen to paper, It has since been revealed that Nabi and Chiefs agreed on specific terms, but a crucial factor led to the move stalling and falling through at the 11th hour.
It all started with Nabi himself confirming that he was in talks with Chiefs and that a decision on his future would be made in 58 hours. The next day, further reports claimed that the Amakhosi hierarchy was upset at the Tunisian tactician because many of their negotiations were being leaked to the public.

As the week continued, the reports started to look more and more unfavourable for Nabi and Chiefs, as it was said that the club had decided to snub him and go for a different candidate. That candidate was Mamelodi Sundowns’ assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi. That would have come as quite a surprise because Mngqithi’s agent Mike Makaab had previously come out saying that the club were happy to keep his client at least until the end of his contract with them in 2024.
Not too long after that, Chiefs then announced Ntseki as the new coach, and Nabi was soon confirmed as the coach of Moroccan outfit Rabat. Now Amakhosi sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr, has since cleared up the situation.
CHIEFS OPEN UP ON NABI TALKS
“The Nabi stuff is very strange to me, I think it also came at it a time when it very disrespectful when coach Arthur was our head coach. I think a lot was made in the media and things pushed in the wrong direction. From the club side we always knew the direction we were going to take and we also have act with caution, professionalism and respect for all individuals. We also have a team like Yanga, who we just had a great international friendly with, looking to build relationships. I think sometimes the narrative in the media is also driven in the wrong way but from the club side we were very clear in our direction and we’re looking forward to coach Ntseki giving us all his best. For us it was weird because people were talking like we didn’t have a head coach. Coach Arthur was our head coach and we just went through a restructuring phase. We were very clear this whole time, which direction we took, which was Ntseki and we’re looking forward to the best from the coach.” Said the Chiefs official according to iDiski Times.
