As it is, a full strength Kaizer Chiefs squad assembled on Thursday to embark on a late flight to Tanzania for the first leg of their brief pre-season African tour, which begins with a clash against Young Africans SC this Saturday, kicking off at 7pm.
“With the league set to get underway in a fortnight’s time, we view this tour involving matches against quality opposition as a valuable opportunity to get the boys match-ready for the start of the season,” says Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., who will accompany the squad on their travels.
“We intend to hit the ground running in our opening fixture against Chippa and establish forward momentum from the word ‘go’,” he added.
Following the conclusion of the Tanzanian leg, the Chiefs contingent will journey south to Botswana for another keenly anticipated clash against Township Rollers a week later, on 29 July, at the national stadium in the capital, Gaborone. Kick-off is at 3pm.
The squad will then return home to prepare to host Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, 6 August in the opening match of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign.
