CHANGE YOUR SARS EFILING PASSWORD AND USERNAME
Perhaps the easiest is to go to the SARS eFiling website – www.sarsefiling.co.za. Once online you can click on “forgot username” or “forgot password.” The website will then prompt you to enter your ID or Passport number, contact details and lastly your tax reference number to verify it is you.

If you do not have your tax reference number at hand – and because you need to change your SARS eFiling username and password who can blame you – sadly, you will have to retrieve it from the SARS website, too.
RETRIEVE YOUR TAX REFERENCE NUMBER
Go to the www.sars.gov.za website and click on “contact us” and under the “send us a query” heading select “request your tax number”. From there you will need to enter your current contact details, ID number and a contact number.

The same functionality is also available on the SARS MobiApp which you can download for your mobile device and easily complete your 2023 tax return.
Install it from the following app stores:
- Apple App Store for Apple devices
- Google Play Store for Android devices
- Huawei App Gallery for Huawei devices
Once downloaded, simply register, complete your ITR12, save and submit for evaluation.
GIVE SARS A CALL
If none of these options to change your SARS eFiling username and password work, you can contact the SARS call centre at 0800 00 7277.

Another way to speak to a consultant at SARS which can help you avoid a lengthy phone call is to “request a call back” through the www.sars.gov.za website. Click on “contact us” and under the “send us a query” heading select “request a call back”. This could take one to two days before they call you.
