Al Jama-ah has given Democratic Alliance caucus leader in the City of Johannesburg, Dr Mpho Phalatse 48 hours to publicly apologise and retract her claims that Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda is a scammer or faces legal action.
Gwamanda received 139 votes to become Executive Mayor in the City of Johannesburg defeating Dr Mpho Phalatse and ActionSA’s Funzi Ngobeni following Thapelo Amad’s resignation.
GWAMANDA AND AL JAMA-AH THREATEN LEGAL ACTION AGAINST DA
Phalatse accused Gwamanda of running a Ponzi scheme through his iThemba Lama Africa funeral scheme entity.
Al Jama-ah leader Ganief Hendricks accused Phalatse of being a sore loser and trying to defame Gwamanda.

In a statement, the party said it is disappointed at the level at which the DA in opposition, when defeated politically, resort to cheap politicking and a failed attempt to defame the character of the newly elected Executive Mayor even before he has stepped into his office.
“We demand that the DA retract their lies against the Mayor. We demand that they issue an apology, both verbal and written within the next 48 hours. Failure of this, we will advise the Executive Mayor to instruct his legal team to approach the court for remedial action. We will sue the DA for defamation of character,” the party said.
Al Jama-ah said Gwamanda remains focused and will not be distracted nor deterred from his responsibilities.
