Mweene quit professional football at the age of 38 on Monday following his completion of 10 years as a Sundowns player.

The former Zambia international arrived at Sundowns in 2013 from Free State Stars, and he later became one of the club’s stalwarts.

The South African has exclusively revealed that Mweene is already part of the Sundowns technical team ahead of next season.

According to a source known to this publication, coach Rhulani Mokwena wants Mweene as part of his backroom staff.

However, what’s unclear at this stage is Mweene’s new role within the Sundowns technical team as Wendell Robinson remains the goalkeeper coach.

Indications, though, are that Mweene will be an understudy to Robinson as he continues to do his coaching badges.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS KEEP KENNEDY MWEENE IN NEW ROLE

“Kennedy is staying. In fact, he’s already part of the club’s technical team,” said the source.

“But his exact role is yet to be finalised but because he’s just retired and is doing his coaching badges, chances are he will work closely with the current season goalkeeper coach (Robinson).”

“Coach Rhulani hasn’t finalised his entire backroom staff with all the changes, and Mweene’s role will be clear in the near future,” concluded the source.
