The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued various warnings for the Eastern Cape this weekend.

A cold front is expected to make a landfall on Friday. The weather service said a significant drop in temperature is expected over the extreme western parts of the country on Friday, spreading eastwards on Saturday. These cold to very cold temperatures will reach the eastern parts of the country by Sunday.

VARIOUS WEATHER WARNINGS FOR EASTERN CAPE

The weather service issued an Orange Level 5 warning for damaging winds that could result in damage to settlements, properties and temporary infrastructure.

Areas that might be affected include the Sarah Baartman District Municipality and the western parts of the Chris Hani District Municipality on Friday and Saturday.

SAWS also issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for damaging winds that could result in damage to settlements, properties and temporary infrastructure.

Areas that might be affected include the Joe Gqabi District Municipality, the eastern parts of Chris Hani District Municipality, Amahlathi Local Municipality and Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipalities on Friday and Saturday.

DISRUPTIVE SNOW EXPECTED IN VARIOUS AREAS

The weather service also issued a Yellow Level 6 warning for disruptive snow that could  result  in  major  mountain  passes  closed,  isolate communities and loss of livestock is expected over these areas:

Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi District  Municipalities, Matatiele, Umzimvubu, Raymond Mhlaba and Dr. Beyers Naude (Graaff Reinet) Local Municipalities.
