The two men and two women shot dead in Constantia, Cape Town, on Thursday, 25 May, are believed to be wanted a Bulgarian underworld figure, Krasimir Kamenov, his wife, and the couple’s bodyguard and nanny.

CONSTANTIA MASS SHOOTING SHROUDED IN SILENCE

TimesLive reported that the mass shooting is believed to be a hit linked to Kamenov’s involvement in the Bulgarian underworld.

The deceased was recently added to the Interpol Red Notice list as he was wanted for murder and extortion in his home country.

TimesLive reported that neighbours in Constantia said that they hadn’t heard any noise on Thursday despite the fact that the front gate of the home was rammed open by a vehicle.

The victims reportedly had their hands handcuffed behind their backs, except for Kamenov, who was bound with cable ties. He was shot at point-blank range. It is believed that the suspects used silenced firearms.

‘VICTIMS OF BULGARIAN DESCENT’

On Thursday, local police said they were called to the scene in Constantia at approximately 8:20. The South African enquired about whether Kamenov was one of the victims and received no response. However, in a statement, SAPS said all four victims were of Bulgarian descent.

AFP reported that judicial and government sources in Sofia identified “high-profile Bulgarian organised crime figure” Kamenov as one of the shooting victims.

“Police were summoned to the crime scene after the discovery was made. The motive for the multiple murders is yet to be determined, with detectives hard at work in search of clues. Serious and Violent Crime detectives have initiated an investigation into the murders,” said Colonel Andre Traut.
