Sometimes there’s no better way to enjoy the beautiful Cape Town outdoors than with a traditional South African braai – and with Heritage Day just come and gone, you might still be looking to celebrate Braai Day. So, here are four of the best locations to enjoy a scenic braai in Cape Town…

1. Oudekraal in Table Mountain National Park

Situated on the Atlantic Seaboard, Oudekraal offers some of the most breathtaking views in Cape Town. Surrounded by the towering Twelve Apostles mountain range and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean, it’s a peaceful and picturesque spot for a seaside braai.

Oudekraal features multiple braai areas nestled between large boulders, picnic tables, and shady trees. It’s also located next to a small, secluded beach where you can dip your toes in the cool ocean water.

2. Newlands Forest

If you prefer the quiet ambiance of a forest over the seaside, Newlands Forest is a fantastic option. Surrounded by towering pine trees and indigenous fynbos, this peaceful spot provides the perfect environment for a relaxing braai in nature. Plus, the area offers incredible views of the Southern Suburbs and False Bay.

Stone braai pits are spread across the forest, and there are plenty of picnic tables where you can enjoy your meal.

3. Silvermine Nature Reserve

Silvermine is a popular spot for its serene beauty and recreational options. The reserve is home to a beautiful reservoir where visitors can swim, and the surrounding fynbos-covered mountains provide a picturesque backdrop for your braai. Some of the cooking spots also offer stunning views over False Bay.

Braai areas are located close to the reservoir, making it convenient for those who want to cool off with a swim while their food cooks. There are also picnic tables scattered around.

4. Maiden’s Cove

Maiden’s Cove is arguably one of the most scenic spots in Cape Town, offering jaw-dropping views of the Atlantic Ocean, Table Mountain, and the Twelve Apostles. It’s especially popular during sunset when the sky lights up in shades of pink and orange, creating a magical atmosphere.

There are several designated braai areas with picnic benches, making it easy to set up for the day.
