BANANA CHOCOLATE BRAAI PUDDING TIPS

This is a braai-focused recipe, but you can also make it in the oven, so when it’s cold outside, you can enjoy a heartwarming sweet treat after dinner. The chocolate will melt but not spread too much in the bananas until you open them up and eat them. Top your bananas with some maple syrup and whipped cream, but if you love the hot/cold contrast, some vanilla ice cream is another great choice. Some nuts add some texture and crunch to each bit too.

BANANA CHOCOLATE BRAAI PUDDING RECIPE

Recipe by Irene Muller

Course: Dessert Cuisine: South African Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 4 servings
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Total time: 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 bananas

  • 60 g semi-sweet chocolate chips (or slab chocolate, broken into squares.) Chocolate with an almond filling and nuts work very well.

  • 60 g miniature marshmallows

  • whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

  • nuts for serving (optional)

METHOD

  1. Have hot coals ready.
  2. Using a sharp knife, make a cut along most of the length of the unpeeled banana skin and almost through the bananas.
  3. Push chocolate chips and marshmallows into the slits; push the bananas closed.
  4. Wrap each banana tightly in aluminium foil.
  5. Place the banana packets on the grid and cook for 10 minutes, turning the packets after five minutes.
    Remove from the grid.
  6. Carefully open the banana packets and remove the cooked bananas from the aluminium foil. Note: You can serve in the aluminium foil.
  7. Serve with either whipped cream or ice cream or maybe even a splash of Van der Hum Liqueur. You can even sprinkle nuts of your choice.
