Phew, finally! For the first time since 2016, dam levels in the City of Cape Town have passed the 60% mark! This is great news for a region that just months ago was stockpiling bottles of water and dreading Day Zero when residential taps were going to be switched off.
For the past week, dam levels improved slightly by 1.3% to 60.1% of storage capacity, and the average water consumption rose from 519 million to 527 million litres per day.
The City of Cape Town said it is encouraged by this milestone, and thanked water users for continuing to use as little water as possible.
“This remains a priority effort to ensure that we build a buffer against the summer months ahead,” the city said on Monday. – SAnews.gov.za
Our average collective usage has increased to 527 million litres per day. Dam levels have improved slightly by 1,3% to 60,1% of storage capacity. Please keep saving; every drop counts as we build our buffer for summer: https://t.co/8yPg1Y7KL4 #50LitreLife pic.twitter.com/wdOYXYSgN8
