Here’s that moment when country singer and The Voice coach Blake Shelton saved South African expat Selkii, using his one and only vote to keep her as a contestant in America’s version of The Voice.
Selkii said afterwards: “I thought I would be going home today! But Blake believes in me and I’m going to sing my lungs out to try get America behind me too! Can’t believe I’m here! Just lost for words!”
She called Blake the “coach with the biggest heart” and said how elated she had been afterwards to meet his wife, singer Gwen Stefani, and said: “I am bursting with pride being the token South African in the Team Blake family!”
On Facebook, the Durbanite quoted Nelson Mandela, saying: “Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
