WATCH South Africa’s Selkii Still Shining Brightly on America’s The Voice

South African expat Selkii is having a blast on America’s The Voice, and being a fantastic representative of her home country, with her talent and gratitude on full display to the USA.

Watch below to see who wins as Selkii performs ‘Head Above Water’ with fellow contestant Cecily Hennigan. The duo, both in country singer Blake Shelton’s team, battled it out for a place in the next stage: Cross Battles.

The Durbanite – whose real name is Jessica Yallup – first won the audience’s hearts last month when she sang a cover of Macy Gray’s “I Try”. Afterwards she was delighted when Macy posted a social media message saying: “#adamlevine and #blakeshelton know awesome when they hear it! Sing your heart out @selkii”.

Selkii responded: “Ok my heart just stopped! Macy Gray – the Macy Gray just mentioned me on her feed… What a kind gesture! I’m honored I got to cover your music Macy you’re a legend and one of a kind diamond!”

Many feel the same about Selkii, including Maroon 5’s Adam Levine who’s still smarting that she never chose him to be her coach. In a tongue-in-cheek message, Blake tagged Levine’s Namibian wife, super model Behati Prinsloo and asked if she was supporting Team Blake this year. He also revealed that he LOVES Selkii’s husband. And Selkii.

Selkii replied: “Oh Blake we are so happy to be on your team! The best team!!!!! 🙂 we even named our dog after you!!!!!! Hahaha! #blessed #happiness.”

The Florida-based live-looping-singer-guitarist and songwriter was a top 7 finalist on South African Idol.
