Snow on Table Mountain
The first video of snow on Table Mountain, Cape Town, has just come in to Snow Report SA. Matthew de Haast said it’s taken on Smuts track from the top of Skeleton’s Gorge to Maclears Beacon.

Hail in Struisbaai
Meanwhile in Struisbaai, in the Overberg District, residents awoke to what looked like snow… but which was hail. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) had posted a message about the possibility of “small hail overnight”.
Magda Stein took these amazing photos on Monday morning:
Severe downpours hit Western Cape
The Western Cape has received heavy rains – up to 60 mm in places like Grabouw (Overberg) – and flash floods that have caused havoc on the Cape Peninsula and other areas of the province. Motorists are being urged to be more vigilant. There was reportedly even ice on Boyes Drive, Cape Town.
Cape Town weather forecaster, Riaan Smit, says temperatures have also dropped to below 10 degrees in some parts. He says the rain is expected to clear up by tomorrow.
SAWS has warned of a gale force westerly to south-westerly wind of 70 to 80 km/h, expected between Cape Agulhas and Port Edward on Monday.

A welcome sight at Theewaterskloof Dam, which supplies most of Cape Town’s drinking water:
Raining in the #Theewaterskloof dam right now. 80mm or rain expected in the area over next 24hrs. Welcome relief! Still lots of capacity left. #capestorm #DayZero pic.twitter.com/OrPgqneoRn

While many Capetonians have given thanks to God for answering their prayers, some are not convinced the downpour is a blessing from God:
just a reminder that the #CapeStorm is not a blessing from God because God does not exist.

Many Capetonians are hopeful that the water restrictions will be lifted.
The City of Cape Town said no evacuations or emergency shelter is needed after the heavy rains on Monday morning.
Snow in parts of the country
SAWS has warned of “disruptive snowfalls” in parts of the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape.
