South African singer Jeremy Olivier yesterday surprised an amazing Western Cape man, who sells the Big Issue, with an incredible gift – his eight-seater Nissan van!
It’s been a dream of the 2016 The Voice SA contestant and his wife Nicole’s for five years, ever since they first met Bongani… who usually works at the King of Kings/ Longbeach Mall robots in Cape Town.
In a video that’s going viral, Jeremy says Bongani is such an “amazing guy, such a cool oke”, and that Nicole had told Bongani years ago that when they got a new car, they were going to give Bongani’ their old one.
“Recently we were hugely blessed with our sponsors getting us a beautiful H1 van, which is what we’ve dreamed of for a long time,” says Jeremy. “So we’re being blessed, and you know that’s how the world turns around – you can bless others…”
Bongani’s response is beautiful…

The Olivier family is well known to SAPeople followers. Jeremy captured our hearts with his 2014 song – ‘Beautiful’ – written by his wife, about their adopted son who was abandoned at birth.
A couple of months ago Jeremy partnered with SAPeople to promote his brilliant (and aptly named) album ‘Changing World’ – and he gave away a dream trip to Cape Town (won by a nurse in London).
The Oliviers are renowned in Cape Town for constantly striving to change the world for the better. SAPeople follower Vivian Van Eeden said on Saturday afternoon: “Cannot say enough how phenomenal the Olivier Family are! And Bongani so well deserved ? #payitforward true spirit that we can all aspire to, no matter how small the gesture!”
Jeremy thanked the generosity of their sponsors – Cow Hills Retail – for enabling them to “do what we have dreamed of doing for five years”.
He said it was “a very special moment” and that “Bongani was speechless for once! ???❤️”.
Jeremy adds: “Bongani had gone out and gotten his driver’s license in faith. Had been trying to save for a car for a long time.
“As LIRA always says…be ready!!! ??”
