South African teams’ song and dance arrivals at airports around the world are become famous, and while Banyana Banyana may not have won their opening match at the Women’s World Cup this weekend… they won the hearts of the people!

Fox Sports Football page uploaded the following video yesterday saying: “South Africa arriving at their first World Cup like… ??⚽??”

They captioned the video: No One Arrives Like South Africa.

As Fox says, this is a historical occasion for South African women – their first FIFA World Cup ever.

Unfortunately they were beaten by favourites Spain on Saturday, 3-1. It wasn’t Africa’s day with Norway scooping a 3-0 victory over Nigeria. Germany beat China 1-0.

South African Football Association (SAFA) President, Dr Danny Jordaan, is in France where he personally applauded Banyana Banyana for their gutsy performance against Spain, after their match at Le Havre, and said they must keep their heads up to face the next fixture with the same vigour, fighting spirit and determination.

He said: “You have done well, but the next match against China on Thursday is a must-win.

“You played well and defended well but there is nothing you can do about the Spain match, it is behind you now.”

He acknowledged that the Video Assistant Referee’s decisions was harsh on two occasions, but said “that’s what happens in football” and that one day the decision goes against you and the next day it favours you.

But he added : “This is not the time to feel sorry or pity for yourself… Don’t drop your heads… Keep up that fighting spirit – the war is not over, you may have lost the battle but not the war…”

South Africa will play China on 13 June and Germany on 17 June in Group B.
