With the latest outbreak of xenophobia in SA, Nando’s Diversity ad – featuring several nationalities in South Africa and the Khoisan, the original inhabitants of the country – is going viral again.
As Nando’s said at the time, the SABC “chickened” out of airing the commercial, claiming it violated various codes.
Mark Radomsky, a Nando’s director and legal counsel, explained at the time that the campaign sought to address the issue of xenophobia by calling on all South Africans to embrace diversity and shun prejudices.
SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said in 2012 that the ad had been withdrawn because it contained bad language or incited violence, racism and xenophobia.
