eNCA are calling it ‘the moment of the day’ – when President Jacob Zuma laughed – and laughed off – their TV journalist’s question about reshuffle rumours.
The South African President was briefing the press following a business meeting luncheon in Cape Town today, ahead of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday.
The President reported that the meeting had gone very well and that business and government had realised that “more interaction” like this is needed to find a common narrative. He said they need to “keep on talking” and “where we see things differently, engage amongst ourselves, close the gaps…”
eNCA’s TV reporter Annika Larsen then asked the President for clarification on reshuffle rumours… to which he laughed and said he knew nothing, and that they were only rumours.
“What I’m telling you,” he said, “since last year this speculation has been there. It has never happened.”
He told Larsen to “forget about it” and that he would tell her when he needed to tell her.
Larsen asked “will you phone me?”… to which the President replied: “I will if I have your number…”
The President’s speech at SONA will be broadcast from 7pm on several channels.
The debate on the SONA and the President’s reply to the debate will be followed by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s budget on 22 February 2017.

President Zuma appears to be in high spirits. When he's in such a mood he's getting ready for a new act of corruption or to scapegoat.
