WATCH The Kiffness: ‘White Privilege’

Check out the latest brilliant offering from Cape Town’s The Kiffness – “White Privilege”… which neatly – and set to a catchy melody – spells out exactly what White Privilege entails for those who still deny they benefit from such a thing (and includes a shot of a Google Search for “how to not be racist”!).

The lyrics include: “When you see a protest and like to complain, while you tweet about it and drink champagne… When you didn’t have to deal with years of oppression, but deny that you benefit from your complexion…” with a chorus: “Mmm, we’re victims of the times; being white is a 21st century crime…”

Commenting on Facebook, David Scott (aka The Kiffness) acknowledged that “people will derive their own truths from this video. Some will see the joke. Others will see the seriousness. Those who are enlightened will see both.”

Dave says: “Taking the p*ss out of your own privilege is the 5th & final stage to enwhitenment. Only once you have reached enwhitenment can you call yourself woke…” (‘Woke’ meaning aware, especially of social and racial injustices.)

‘White Privilege’ is track 6 on The Kiffness’ new album, ‘Soul Safari’. In his FB caption for the video, The Kiffness claims Sony didn’t want to make a big budget video for the track because “that song is too woke”…
