Major Zizi Peters says she’s proud to be the First Flying Instructor of Colour in the South African Air Force. Her achievements – she’s also a military pilot – have been celebrated with a video interview posted to YouTube in August, National Women’s Month.
Stationed at Air Force Base Langebaanweg, Major Peters says she’s proud to have flown both the President and the Deputy President of the country when she was at 21 Squadron at Air Force Base Waterkloof.
Major Peters joined the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) in 2004 and qualified as a pilot four years later. The highlight of her career was joining the Presidential Squadron in 2010.
She says the Falcon 900 is a “personal favourite of mine – it holds a very dear place in my heart.” The aircraft is used to transport the country’s deputy president.
Peters says: “It really was an honour for me as a female woman of Colour to have been afforded such an opportunity and to be part of such an elite squadron in the South African Airforce.”
Today she is training other young aspiring female pilots to live their dreams and reach for the skies!
The SANDF said on social media: ” Major Zizi Peters (is) a flying inspiration…”
