Today, 31 July 2014, we thank and celebrate all the Rangers around the world (oh and especially in South Africa!) for all the brave work they do…and we commemorate those rangers who have been tragically killed or injured in the line of duty, protecting our planet’s precious wildlife.
According to a video uploaded for World Ranger Day (see below), the world lost 103 rangers last year. This year 56 have already died on the ‘front line’ of conservation. As one ranger says “you never know when you have to climb a tree…we have to run away from a buffalo or something like that!” And then there are the poachers to contend with too.
To support the rangers, please get involved – educate yourself and others on the issues facing your area, fundraise, and appeal to the government to support these rangers who are doing such an important and challenging task.
