Several Uber passengers in Johannesburg, South Africa, will recognise Diana Dube, one of the coolest drivers in town who always wears her trademark hat and a passionate can-do attitude.
Yesterday passenger Carl Chemaly took to Facebook to publicly applaud Diana. He wrote: “I met this inspirational lady called Diana Dube this morning. Great sense of humour, bubbling with enthusiasm and a snappy driver nogal.”
Diana has lifted over 33,000 Uber rides during the ten years she’s been in the business. She drives her own car and starts each day dropping her children off at school first. She then does Uber – based in the Rivonia area – until it’s school pick-up time, and then finishes at 5pm.
Carl, who is chairman of the Parkview Residents Association, asked her about wearing sunglasses while she drives. Diana said she has never really tried them for driving.
So Carl – who loves spreading cheer and good news wherever he can find it – asked her to try on his Polaroids.
“She couldn’t believe how relaxing they were and how rosy it even made Joburg traffic look, so I happily donated them,” said Carl. He added: “Uber should do a story on her and buy her a Merc!”
Carl, who part-owns an insurance brokerage and an HR services company called The Focus Group, admits he “unfashionably still loves Johannesburg”. Apart from the Parkview Residents association, he’s also involved a few other social initiatives.
He has a great idea for Uber in SA – “I think you guys should encourage and measure good performance, and the top performer should get a car upgrade!” That would be starting with the Merc for Diana!
Carl says: “Go Diana, hope we meet again!”
