Tupperware fans were shocked this past week when the company announced it urgently needs a cash injection to survive, or – after 77 years – it would be packing up for good.
South Africa’s favourite ‘safari guide’, comedian Themba Robin was quick to produce a video about saving the ‘legendary beast from extinction’. Complete with his brilliant David Attenborough accent, Themba explains in this ‘rather sad safari’ that it is ice-cream tubs and similar containers that have sadly added to Tupperware’s demise.

Many a South African has been reminiscing on social media about the days of lekker road trips, padkos (including a thermos flask of coffee and hardboiled eggs!) and the trusty Tupperware! The company enjoyed a brief rise in sales during the pandemic, but profits have since fallen again.
