The Tshwane Council voted on Thursday to sell the Mayoral Mansion in order to use the proceeds to provide other basic municipal services… including building houses for those who need access to decent housing.
The DA (Democratic Alliance) said that while the motion to sell the property in Pretoria was delayed due to August’s council being “inquorate”, they are pleased the process to remove the unnecessary mansion is finally advancing.
The Executive Mayor – the DA’s Solly Msimanga – will host the first open house in due course, they said.
According to the DA, the previous ANC administration spent R12 million to “renovate” the 5-bedroomed house… yet the latest valuation on the property indicates that the property can be sold for a minimum amount of R5 million.
And despite the mega-millions spent on the renovations… the valuators – Spectrum Valuations – have uncovered defects including surface cracks on exterior and interior walls and “clear evidence that the money meant to enhance the house went to the pockets of the few”, say the DA.
