South African comedian Trevor Noah is clearly laughing all the way to the bank since he moved to the United States and took over as The Daily Show host. The Wall Street Journal has revealed that Trevor has bought himself a R130-million ($10-million) penthouse in Manhattan, New York.
The stellar apartment is in Stella Tower, where the 33-year-old has been renting a smaller unit for about a year. His new acquisition is a 3,596 square foot duplex apartment, with a large terrace and 360 degree views… just a short walk from his Daily Show set.
Less than 18 months ago, on the debut of the show in September 2015, Trevor said that growing up on the dusty streets of South Africa he never dreamed that he’d one day be the host of the The Daily Show… or have an indoor toilet! Look at his bathroom now:
And that’s only one of his three new bathrooms! Here’s the master bedroom’s ensuite – with “steam shower, cast iron soaking tub, double sinks, steel vanities and Black Zeus marble radiant heated floors in a chevron mosaic pattern” (as per Sotheby’s description):
Most South Africans on social media have expressed joy at the news… that a homegrown talent who was “Born a Crime” (the name of his best-selling autobiography) is showing that dreams are worth believing in.
The deal was allegedly closed yesterday, for just over $1-million less than the asking price. The three-bedroomed property has solid oak flooring and is in an art deco tower which was designed in the 1920s by Ralph Walker. It was listed by Sotheby’s International Realty, and Trevor’s real estate girlfriend – Jordyn Taylor – apparently found it for him.
For all his South African friends who’d like to visit, Sotheby’s says the two spare bedrooms “both feature en-suite baths, expansive closets and fantastic NYC views”.
