THIS WEEK IN SA: #Sona Trumped by #ZindziMandela

How did you feel about #Sona, and how is it possibly not the top story?
- #ZindziMandela’s comments on Twitter made more impact than #Sona2019. #Zindzi started a heated discussion surrounding land just before the Presidential event and Twitter rose to her defence while others were furious at her commentary (which included insults like calling white people “rapist descendants of Van Riebeck” and “shivering land thieves”);
- #Sona19, the cheapest to date, was filled with promises from our #PresidentRamaphosa with some so big that many asked if he was daydreaming;
- #Proteas maintain 3rd position on the charts, pity it’s not the same on the field;
- The #SABC is on the brink of bankruptcy and speculation was rife that the SOE would be shut;
- #StateCaptureCommission never lets up as we moved from #Transnet to #SAA and the looting stories continue;
- Calls for the removal of the #PublicProtector have been louder this week and civil activists are not letting this one go;
- After #StateCapture #DuduMyeni – former SAA chair – is back in the charts as our jaws dropped at the brazeness and tyranny of the woman made headlines;
- #BanyanaBanyana made it to the world cup but their loss left South Africans shaking their heads;
- #SteveHofmeyr’s response to #ZindziMandela (and the DA’s #PumzileVanDamme) was yet again, filled with patriarchy and racism, why is he still here? Hofmeyr tweeted: “Dear @zilevandamme and @ZindziMandela I’m a South African tax-paying citizen. Effectively, I AM your boss. You WILL jump when I say so and you WILL ask how high. And when you come to take our lives&land, you WILL die. Our contract is that simple. And don’t you forget it.”
- Finally, and one of the most astonishing stories is that of the #PumzileVanDamme and the shopping centre incident. (Van Damme claimed she had to punch a young man in “self-defence” after an alleged racial incident at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, where she says the Waterfront manager mishandled the situation. The shopping centre has since apologised to Van Damme.)
Management of @VandAWaterfront if you’re going to allow racism & racists on your premisis, please announce it to all. I will not stand for anyone’s racism towards me or anyone. And don’t send me some PR clichéd response either, ACTION pic.twitter.com/YIriYXUKQW
