This SA coffee franchise offers a menu where everything costs R12

In a world where indulgences often come with hefty price tags, a South African coffee franchise stands out as a refreshing exception.

For over five years, XPRESSO Café has been offering an array of coffees, pastries, sandwiches, and treats — all priced at an incredibly affordable R12.

Founded by Nicolene and Tomer Elhadad, XPRESSO Café was born out of a desire to make the coffee shop experience accessible to all.

“It has always been a dream for us to start a coffee offering that is affordable to everyone,” they explain.

THAT TIME WHEN EVERYTHING COST R10

Originally, every item on their menu was priced at R10. However, in October 2021, they had to increase the price to R12 to continue providing quality offerings without compromising on affordability.

With some South African coffee franchises charging as much as R40 for a cappuccino, XPRESSO’s prices seem almost too good to be true.

“Everything in life does not have to be expensive and yes, we do not make a lot of profit, but in life, giving has always been better than receiving,” the founders add.

“We wanted to create a space for [people] to taste the coffee shop experience at the best price possible.”

XPRESSO Café opened its first store on 1 October 2016 in Durbanville, Cape Town. Within three weeks, they opened their second and third stores, at Cape Gate Shopping centre and Shortmarket street in the Cape Town CBD.

Now the chain boasts 52 stores nationwide.

Branding itself as ‘South Africa’s best-priced coffee shop’, XPRESSO Café also offers franchising opportunities for budding entrepreneurs, to join the chain and own their own XPRESSO shop.

“We offer more than a mere franchise opportunity,” the company says. “We present [people] with a premium investment platform to become part of South Africa’s fast-growing coffee industry.”

“Life is short and we want to share this passion for coffee and treats with as many people in SA as possible.”
