The Day the Springboks had to Hitchhike to Training in Stellenbosch

When new Springbok coach Allister Coetzee met the South African national team at Cape Town International airport for their first team assembly under his guidance he had a surprise in store for them. As reported in SAPeople at the time, he instructed the Boks to hitchhike their way to the training camp in Stellenbosch rather than catch the luxury team bus.

Here’s the video of that life-changing journey, recently uploaded by the Springboks. The players – dressed in bright yellow #LoveRugby t-shirts – went to venues as diverse as the Springbok Experience Rugby Museum, a township restaurant, a city gym, rugby clubs and a brewery to engage with unsuspecting Capetonians before ‘thumbing’ their way to Stellenbosch.
