Staff members at One Loyalty, a South African company that specialises in emergency assist, got to prove both their loyalty and emergency skills on Friday with the unexpected joy of delivering a baby in their Joburg offices!
“Giving life is a miracle,” said Marketing Coordinator Deepa Naran. “One Loyalty got to be a part of this amazing experience this past Friday when our team bound together to deliver our very own staff member Cindy Morgan’s bundle of joy right here, in our offices in Sandton.”
Doctors had set the date of birth for mid-November. On Friday 30 October in what started as mild contractions -mistakenly taken as Braxton Hicks contractions (false labour) – turned into full blown contractions by mid-afternoon.
By the time an ambulance was called the contractions were already two minutes apart meaning that there was no way Cindy could be moved.
There was no time to panic and, being in the business of emergency assist, the staff were soon prepared to deliver the baby when the time came.
The amazing staff support came in all forms – Anja Botha monitored dilation; Hayla Preradovic, Ami Haystek and Tresha Damon provided moral and physical support to manage the pain; Le-Virge Constance assisted Cindy with breathing and praying over the mother to be; and Deepa Naran sterilised instruments.
Meanwhile Andrea Kuskus, Juanita Smit and Ronel Spencer busied themselves by calling every resource possible to ensure mother and baby would be fine. Managing Director Anthony Kotton said he was extremely impressed and proud of his team.
The ambulance arrived two minutes before birth and Botha were tasked to assist in guiding the baby into this world as well as cut the umbilical cord. Haystek offered up her jersey in which to wrap the baby.
Baby Scianne Azaria Janice Morgan was born at 3:10pm Friday afternoon. Mother and baby had endured and come out strong.
In what started as a normal Friday had ended in a baby being delivered and the staff in tears of relief and joy.
“Welcome to the world Scianne Azaria Janice Morgan and welcome to the One Loyalty Family,” said Deepa.
