Sunette Viljoen secured South Africa another Silver medal in the Rio Olympics on Thursday, with a throw of 64.92 in the women’s Javelin.

It was her first throw that secured the silver. Her third was a ‘no throw’. According to Team South Africa (SASCOC) Sunette’s silver was a “brilliant effort in very difficult conditions” in Rio where it was raining.

The South African Government tweeted “We congratulate @Sunette_Viljoen on her #Silver Medal at the#Rio2016 #Olympics. Dankie!”

Caster Semenya posted the fastest qualifying time in the semi-finals for the Women’s 800m – in 1 minute, 58.15 seconds.

The final will take place on Saturday evening (Sunday morning in SA at 2.15am).

South Africa’s medal tally now stands at nine with one Gold, six Silver and two Bronze.

There are three days of competition left.

In the meantime, Chad le Clos has been welcomed home from the Olympics with his two silvers.
