Yesterday the mom of a 13-year-old boy in Cape Town, suffering leukaemia, sent out a plea on social media for help to give her son a little “fun in the sun” after five months of intense chemotherapy…
Adele Grosse wrote: “We need your help. Luca just got his first 1 week window period since his chemo started early November. So instead of just being in home and hospital we can actually go somewhere before chemo starts again next Friday.
“I am giving him the choice of where he wants to go and his choice is SunCity. So anyone out there who has timeshare or contacts to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children from Monday to Thursday next week?
“This boy really needs fun in the sun as a window period like this is not likely to happen soon again. Please help. #WEareBeatingTheHellOutOfCANcer”
And likely the whole family needs that “fun in the sun” too…
Luca was diagnosed with a unique type of T-cell ALL (Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) in November 2016. According to his facebook page, his intense chemotherapy treatment started two days later in preparation for a stem cell transplant in 2017… if he finds a donor.
Friends and strangers sent in offers… and someone got in touch with Sun City.
Today Adele updated her timeline with a joyous message: “Tears of joy flowing in this house this morning. Thank you Marnie Tait from Sun International for picking up on the request from Gwynneth Matthews and for arranging the accommodation for us in … drumroll … The Palace at Sun City for Luca’s ‘window-away-from-chemo’ week.
“AND a massive BIG thank YOU to everyone else, so many of you, who are sharing our post and offering time share options and and and. GRATITUDE!”
