As the 2014 Vodacom Super Rugby season kicks off this evening for the DHL Stormers, the team has published a preview video discussing their thoughts on the upcoming season.
Tonight the Western Province team will face the Lions (whose season began last week when they beat the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein 21-20).
“I’m very pleased and very excited about this up and coming season,” reveals Head Coach Allister Coetzee in the video. “I think this is one of the better pre-seasons that we’ve had. You know the players took ownership in terms of their conditioning.”
Captain Jean de Villiers says “everyone thinks they can win the competition and our team’s no different.”
Schalk Burger, the Stormers’ loose forward who has been on an “18-month sabbatical” says there’s a good balance in the team between the experienced players who “bring calmness and knowledge”, and “all the youngsters coming through” who bring their energy to the team’s game.
Fellow loose forward Siya Kolisi agrees that the senior players have been a great help in bringing the new players in, and that “we all want the team to benefit; we put the team first.”
The match kicks off at 19h10 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg tonight.
