Following South Africa’s awesome 31-29 victory over the All Blacks on the Gold Coast, Australia, over the weekend, the Springboks have regained their status as the world’s best team – ranked number one by World Rugby!
World Rugby said: “New Zealand’s two-week reign at the top of the World Rugby Men’s Rankings is over after they were beaten for the first time in this year’s Rugby Championship in Robina on Saturday.
“In what was a brilliant advertisement for test rugby, reigning Rugby World Cup champions South Africa came from behind to win 31-29, thanks to fly-half Elton Jantjies’ penalty at the death.”
South Africa’s victory – which was their first win when trailing at half-time against New Zealand, since 1998 – earned the SA team 0.86 of a rating point so they now have a slim 0.16-point lead over the All Blacks (who are now second in the rankings).
Australia’s World Rugby Rankings
Australia’s 32-17 win over Argentina, coupled with the All Blacks losing to the Springboks, means the gap between Australia and New Zealand is now down to 3.98 points, said World Rugby.
