South Africa’s Lucas Sithole Wins Australian Open Wheelchair Doubles Title

Congratulations to South Africa’s Lucas Sithole for winning the Australian Open wheelchair tennis quad doubles title on Thursday in Melbourne.

Sithole and his partner, American former world no. 1 David Wagner, beat British Andy Lapthorne and Australian Dylan Alcott 6-1 6-3 in an 1 hour battle at Melbourne Park.

According to Tennis.co.za Sithole –  who lost both his legs and half of his right arm after falling under a train at the age of 12 – said after the match: “I enjoyed the match very much. It was great to play with David Wagner, it was our first match together and it was easy to play with him. I am extremely excited for taking the doubles title and again winning against Andy Lapthorne today.” (Sithole beat Lapthorne in the singles.)

This is Sithole’s first Grand Slam doubles title. #GoTeamSouthAfrica
