South Africa’s famous ‘flute painter’ or flautist, Wouter Kellerman has won a Grammy Award for his collaboration with musician Zakes Bantwini and singer Nomcebo Zikode.
The three won the Best global music performance category for Bayethe, at the glamorous gala in Los Angeles on Sunday night, 5 February 2023.
Kellerman announced on social media: “We won the Grammy for the Best Global Music Performance for our song ‘Bayethe’ Thank so much to everybody for all the support – this is for the whole of South Africa! Awesomeness.”
Later he posted a video of the win (see below) and said: “Woohooo we won the GRAMMY for the ‘Best Global Performance’ for our song ‘Bayethe’ a collaboration with Nomcebo Zikode and Zakes Bantwini … proudly South African ?”
The trio fought out competition from Burna Boy (Last Last), Arooj Aftab & Anoushka Shankar (Udhero Na), Matt B & Eddy Kenzo (Gimme Love) and Rocky Dawuni Featuring Blvk H3ro (Neva Bow Down).
The event was hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah.
