Extreme conservationist Braam Malherbe, together with his rowing mate Wayne Robertson, completed their epic journey of 8,100 km from Cape Town – from which they set off on 7 February – to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil… where they arrived on Tuesday.
On Monday 15 May they will arrive at Cape Town International Airport… and South Africans are invited to come along and welcome them back.
The duo rowed across the South Atlantic as part of an initiative called DOT (Do One Thing), which aims to raise awareness about environmental management and the need to change the impact humanity is having on our planet.
After being at sea for over three months, Braam says: “It’s kind of weird… We’ve been physically moving for 92 days and to stand on solid ground is just the weirdest feeling!”
He admits the #DOTChallenge was an “extremely difficult” feat to accomplish, “my toughest challenge to date!” The adventure included several life-threatening experiences – close shaves with super tankers, rough oceans, capsizing… and being held under water for minutes at a time.
Another major conservationist, Bonné de Bod from rhino poaching documentary “Stroop”, said: “Three months at sea and 8,000 kilometers later! You’ve done it! Well done for yet again creating environmental awareness Braam!”
