Several hundred South African wine farms have gathered in Cape Town this week to showcase their vintages and labels in one of the biggest wine shows the country has seen.
Cape Wine 2015, which kicked off yesterday, is being held under the banner of Wines of South Africa (WOSA) through to Thursday this week.
The more than 300 exhibitors range from the small A.A. Badenhorst to the enormous Spier Wine, and from the cheekily named Luddite to the Xhosa-named Sizanani.
WOSA said some of the wine discussions at the event are covering the world’s windiest vineyards, what happens when the warm Indian and cold Atlantic oceans meet, the impact of sea and mountain on Pinot noir, a Semillon vineyard more than 100 years old and the age-worthiness of South African wines.
Guests at the event include award-winning international sommeliers, buyers from the world’s leading retail groups – including the Scandinavian and Canadian monopolies who rank amongst South Africa’s biggest wine customers, top specialty retailers and influential wine writers and critics.
