South African Football Association has elected former ‘Banyana Banyana’ player Lydia Monyepao as the new CEO after Tebogo Motlanthe left.
Following former South African Football Association (SAFA) chief executive officer Tebogo Motlanthe resignation with immediate effect, on 8 May, former Banyana Banyana player Lydia Monyepao was appointed as his replacement and the news have had netizen’s jaws-dropped.

On the South African Football Association website, it was reported that Motlanthe quit due to personal reasons, and the former Banyana Banyana player was appointed in his place.
SAFA President Danny Jordaan was said to have addressed the media regarding Monyepao’s latest appointment and reportedly said she was more than equipped to do the job.
During Monday’s briefing, Jordaan was quoted as saying,
“She knows all the deadlines (for South Africa’s bid for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup) because she has been working on all these matters anyway, and it is nothing new.”
According to IOL, Monyepao, was more than comfortable taking on the challenge and inspires to pave the way for more women in the field. She was quoted as saying,
“It is a great opportunity for the women coming after me, for me to do well. Women should not be overlooked because of their personal and private situations.”
