The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Kimberley is being commended for going above and beyond in the call of duty… and for bringing a good news cop story to social media.
According to the SAPS, the local police in the Northern Cape town assisted residents to drain their homes which were flooded over the Easter Weekend.
“Police assisted residents of Greenpoint in Kimberley by draining their flooded homes,” said SAPS. “Kimberley area received torrential rain leading to some places experiencing some floods over the weekend.”
South Africans across the country have welcomed the good news story. Regular SAPeople contributor Andrew Arnott, from Durban, said: “That’s service to the people. Many pictures of problems with SAPS and SANDF are circulated, but not of hard working men and woman that put their health at risk to serve. ??????????THANK YOU.”
Zandisile Magogo wrote in a message to SAPS: “This is what we need to see to public servants, not the abuse of people that we see in other areas…”
William Herrmannsen pointed out: “This is commendable and I salute you guys. However, it just highlights the total mismanagement of service delivery in SA. Where are the public works or municipal staff that should be doing it? Well done SAPS for your efforts.”
And Thandikaya Matokazi Zizi said: “At times police are known for wrong doings (police brutality) or taking bribes. But there are times they do exceptionally good. This is one of the good. Thank you SAPS ?Keep the good high.”
