Congratulations to expat Jan Greeff for officially making it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest consecutive barbecue marathon by an individual.
Jan, who hails from Stellenbosch, began his braai master attempt at 7am on Thursday morning and is still at it right now, as he aims to set the new record at 80 hours.
(UPDATE: The grillathon is now officially over – Jan has closed the grill at a new official Guinness World Record of 80 hours!)
He officially broke the previous record of 62 hours and six minutes last night. That record was held by fellow South African Gareth Daniell.
Jan broke the record, in the presence of a Guinness World Records official, in his new hometown of Columbus in Georgia.
And he made sure while he was at it, to offer the locals a taste of South Africa – the Americans were lining up queues for his boerewors rolls!
Below are photos from the “Grillathon” in the seconds leading up to and after Jan broke the world record:
With seconds to go…
Made it!
Feeling lekker!
Guinness World Record official double-checks the validity of the new record.
It’s official! New World Record!!!
Nou gaan ons jol!
