In celebration of Freedom Day 2020, which was yesterday 27 April, a Nelson Mandela quote was emblazoned proudly across a building in New York city.
The SA Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) posted a photo, saying “this amazing wrap is displayed in all its glory in Time Square, New York.”
The quote used was: “The purpose of freedom is to create it for others.”
DIRCO said: “Thank you to the government & people of the USA for this great demonstration of strong bilateral ties between our two countries.?? ??#Solidarity #SAUSRelations #SAinUSA #UnitedInOurFreedom.”
The United Arab Emirates also commemorated South Africa’s Freedom Day, by projecting the SA flag onto the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
DIRCO said: “This is great testament to the #unity between #SA & the #UAE. Thank you to the government and people of the United Arab Emirates. ????”
On Friday, the South African flag was also projected onto the Matterhorn in Switzerland, as part of a month-long campaign of unity and hope in which Zermatt Tourism projected flags onto the mountain in the Swiss Alps from around the world.
