To the women at a children’s home in Germiston:
From Michelle de Ricquebourg King (to her friends on Facebook):
“As many of you know, [my daughter] Kerry has been working as an intern psychologist at a Children’s Home in Germiston* where there are 70 children. There are 12 wonderful ladies who are the ‘mothers’ to these children. They take it in turns to work day and night shift. Kerry has been so impressed by these women and the compassion that they have and show towards these children. When I met one of these lovely ladies I chatted a bit about how much good they were doing and she said ‘thank you for recognizing what we do’.” (Michelle is now rallying friends and family to help surprise the women at Christmas.)
*The children’s home is Epworth Children’s Village where safety and security is provided for up to 90 otherwise vulnerable children who often have a history of abuse and neglect. The dedicated care-workers give their time to ensure the children are well looked after, and help ensure their daily wellbeing and healthy psychosocial growth. The organisation also offers community development services to thousands of children in need.
To the policemen and paramedics…
This week SAPeople published a story about two policemen in Durban being reunited with a child they rescued as an abandoned baby a year ago. Afterwards, one of the men – Sergeant Stephen Clark – wrote this message which sums up so much:
“Thanks for sharing our story. Police work is emotionally demanding most of the time and we often don’t get closure when we deal with other people’s trauma and grief. We very rarely find out if a certain victim of crime or another has recovered or healed, simply because of the work load, and we move hourly on to the next case. Hence, this was a great opportunity to see how a small life we had a hand in helping will see a wonderful future of opportunity.” THANK YOU.
To the staff at the SA Embassy in Singapore…
From Cheryl Shelley Wevell:
In August expat Cheryl (who lives in Indonesia) asked for tips on making her trip to Singapore to renew her SA passport run a little smoother since she would have her four young kids with her. In September she wrote: “High 5 to the ladies at the South African Embassy in Singapore. They were so awesome in helping me with my passport issues and kiddies’ certificates, super friendly and so helpful!!! They truly are super!!!”
Today she sent her latest update: “My praise for the South African Embassy in Singapore is never ending!! Applied in September for my passport…and guess what!!?? Got an email this morning saying it’s ready for collection!!!”
