Rhino Charge, a.k.a. ‘Rush Hour in Limpopo Province’ VIDEO

The title of Evan Haussmann’s video says it all: ‘How to film a charging rhino (and not crap yourself).’
Says photographer journalist Haussmann, who took the video in 2012 (although it continues to get circulated for the ‘rush’ it gives): “So I’m minding my own business while working in the greater Kruger area and this rhino appears in the road ahead.
“I think: Well, if he’s still there when I arrive I can shoot a quick cellphone pic and tweet something along the lines of ‘rush hour in the Limpopo province’.
“I get the pic and decide to shoot video. Well the rhino tired of me hanging about and charged my car. I certainly got more of a rush that hour than expected.”
Make sure to watch through to the end of the video, because Haussmann has something important to say about making sure rhinos are around to keep charging – maybe not vehicles so much – for a long time to come.
“No damage was sustained by me or the rental car, so don’t worry about that,” he says. “What I do want you to think about, though, is the plight of these and in fact all wildlife…I want my kid to experience the rush, so to speak.”
