Pretoria needs the attention, Cape Town doesn’t.
-
Pretoria has the perfect building for Parliament (although Zuma will probably build another building, which will cost as much as transporting his cabinet and its officials down to Cape Town for several years).
-
Pretoria has the Gautrain, offering parliamentarians and their staff public transport, saving more money for the government.
-
Pretoria is pretty. It has jacarandas, so many it’s known as the City of Jacarandas.
-
Pretoria will be able to finally end its identity crisis. Someone will be forced to decide whether the city is actually Pretoria or Tshwane (or how about City of Jacarandas, to keep everyone happy).
-
People might be encouraged to learn about Pretoria. (For example, did you know it is the hometown of Oscar Pistorius and the billionaire businessman Elon Musk?)

Pretoria’s closest beach is two hours away (at Sun City), so parliamentarians hopefully won’t nip off early on Friday for a quick surf.
