PROUDLY SA: Howard Warrington completes 200th Robben Island to Blouberg swim, helps raise R160 000 for SPCA
SA endurance swimmer and Guinness World Record holder, Howard Warrington, completed his 200th swim from Robben Island to Blouberg on Sunday.
South African endurance swimmer and Guinness World Record holder, Howard Warrington, completed his 200th swim from Robben Island to Blouberg on Sunday.
Facing icy water, unpredictable currents and relentless waves, Somerset West-based Warrington did so in the name of saving animal lives at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s Animal Hospital.
Warrington, 59, had set a goal of raising R150 000.
Warrington completed the 7.4km swim in 2 hours and 36 minutes, swimming “skins” – AKA only in a speedo – in water temperatures of 13.2 degrees Celsius.
At the time of publishing, he has raised over R160 000 to support the work of the SPCA’s Animal Hospital.

Warrington’s other achievements include crossing the English Channel, conquering eight Ironman triathlons, running six Comrades Marathons, participating in 26 Cape Town Cycle Tours, and completing an impressive tally of 64 marathons and 243 half marathons.
Every day, around 150 animals arrive at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s Animal Hospital in Grassy Park, in desperate need of help.
For all these animals, whether they are stray or loved by owners who are struggling to make ends meet, the SPCA’s Animal Hospital is their last and only hope.
