The DA says it is “elated” with the victory at the Ward 4 by-election in Prince Albert. This municipality now becomes the first municipality in the Central Karoo that the Democratic Alliance governs outright.
According to Tertuis Simmers – DA Provincial Leader, Western Cape – this marks a turning point for Prince Albert… and the rest of the Central Karoo.
“The DA has a proven track record of clean governance and excellent service delivery where we govern, and Prince Albert will be a shining example of what the DA can bring to the rest of the Central Karoo,” Simmers said in a statement late last night.
The results of Wednesday’s by-election are as follows:
- DA – 50.60% – 1053 VOTES (2021 – 30.15% – 533 votes. 2019 – 59.07% – 899 votes)
- KGP – 48.49% – 1009 VOTES (2021 – 31.56% – 558 votes. 2019 – N/A)
- EFF – 0.62% – 13 VOTES (2021 – 2.04% – 36 votes. 2019 – 1.91% – 29 votes)
- ARA – 0.29% – 6 VOTES (2021 NA. 2019 – N/A)
% Poll – 75.51%
“We wish to warmly congratulate Margy Jaftha on her election as the new DA councillor in ward 4. We are confident that she will work hard to bring quality service delivery and good governance to her community,” said Simmers.
